For this year's Koala Count, instead of retracing last year's Dharawal walk which produced no sightings, let's sample an area in Dharawal closer to the known Wedderburn koala population. For efficiency, we will ride bicycles about 11km along the 10B fire road, along the ridge between Stokes and Cobbong Creeks, and return, stopping here and there for short survey walks. 22km bicycle, 5km walks. Although primarily an NPA activity, Sutherland Bushwalking Club members will also be invited to join in and provide extra pairs of eyes. Please contact Murray Scott by email mscott66@tpg.com.au or phone 9520 0750 or 04 0720 3430. Hazards: I have not ridden the 10B road but walked parts near each end. It's a 2WD road, pretty flat but possibly stony in places so bicycling will be fairly slow with the emphasis on scanning for koalas in trees along the roadside. We will stop at 5 or 6 places for short survey walks to listen and to look for scats or tree trunk scratchings. Any sightings will be reported with vegetation description and GPS position etc., to be entered in NPA Koala Project records and the NSW Wildlife Atlas. Limit:10. Map: Bulli and Appin 1:25000 T:
