Projecting itself out of the cliff into the void above Carne creek is the aptly named Flying Carpet. This narrowish slab of rock affords the cautious walker outstanding views of the surrounding cliff lines all around and far down into Carne creek. The Broad Swamp to Birds Rock walking trail is a 17km new track which is part of the 30km Gardens of Stone SCA walking trail, which is due to be finished before the end of this decade. I was planning on doing this section one way but unfortunately the Broad Swamp section with the carpark is closed until just after Easter, whilst new facilities are being established. So instead I'm doing the more spectacular section of this trail starting from Birds Rock and including Hippo rock and the stunning Carne creek lookout and nearby pagodas. Basically we will experience the best section of this track so you won't be disappointed. However, if there is a miracle and the infrastructure is finished by Easter, then the original plan of walking from Broad Swamp to Birds Rock will still stand. But I doubt it! A walk with history and lots of pagodas and stunning views! We start our hike along the Tramway trail, passing various old miners dwellings now being overtaken by nature and head west until the trail ends and we then follow the ridge along to Blacks Corner. Sounds deceptively simple but along the way we will encounter more pagodas and slots than you can imagine as well as some almost parkland sections of grassy lomandra until we reach our objective, Blacks Corner. (Postponed) What this walk lacks in distance it more than makes up for in terms of variety and pure enjoyment as there is much to see and savour in this not often visited part of Wollemi national park. Along the way you'll encounter some of the best and largest swimming holes you could hope to find, gorgeous waterfalls and cascades and stands of towering trees in a rainforest environment. Add to these features, some extraordinary tafoni enriched sandstone caves, rock wells to play in and a hellva lot more. This walk takes in a lot of wild country in the upper reaches of Govetts Leap Creek and a short section of Katoomba Creek and involves a fair bit of creek walking and offtrack walking along with some tracks thrown in for good measure! All in all you can expect a lot of variety and almost certainly few people! So if you are in the mood for a walk not listed in any guide book then this is for you! 18 Apr, Sat 7:30AM				The Grose river Big Bend via Faulconbridge point firetrail

On this walk we will follow the Faulconbridge firetrail until about half a kilometre from the point and then we head bush down the ridge to the picturesque Grose River. Time for a swim and lunch before walking back along the river to the well formed Grose River walking track which is then followed back to the starting point. Expect some offtrack walking and a bit of rock hopping along the Grose River. This walk will take us to a system of creeks and waterfalls where timber cutters used to roam and although the stumps are still there to see, there's so much to explore in this region that will keep us occupied for many an hour. Rising high above the Nattai River is the imposing peak of Bonnum Pic whose spire like appearance has attracted walkers for generations. The walk out to this feature follows an amazing ridge full of interesting pagoda like rocks with fabulous views all along the way. 9 May, Sat 8:00AM				Sunnyside Canyon, the Acoustic chamber and Foxs Wedge

Sunnyside canyon is essentially a dry canyon although you might get wet feet. It is characterised by some amazing chambers along its length, with Acoustic being the biggest and most spectacular. As you enter the canyon there are some superb pagodas which are also worth exploring too, but the most stunning formation is along the cliffs to the west of the canyon itself. This rocky outlier is called Foxs Wedge and it is indeed a sight to behold! Only a short drive from Bilpin is an area of twisted fantastic Angophoras, caves full of golden tafoni formations and various flat rock platforms ,all worth exploring and photographing. My wife and I will be heading over to Africa for our 7th safari and this time we are travelling from Kenya in Tanzania for 13 days staying in excellent accommodation including lodges and glamping tents whilst searching for wildlife. (Nearly fully booked) Summertime in the Australian Alps is hard to beat with the wildflowers in full bloom and the almost endless possibilities to walk to your hearts content make it a compelling place to visit. As usual our group will stay in the very comfortable Southern Alps ski lodge at Charlottes Pass over the 5 nights which will allow us to explore the best that Kosciuszko has to offer. The lodge is DIY and has comfortable rooms which can accommodate 1 to 5 people with most rooms being either a double or twin arrangement and all rooms have an ensuite. There is a commercial style kitchen, large dining area, 2 lounges, BBQ and various other rooms to relax in! The rates at this lodge are very reasonable and quite a bit cheaper than adjacent lodges! As this is usually my most popular trip that I organise each year I’d advise you to contact me to be added to the booking list as there are only so many bedrooms available.
