Bungonia Gorge has a vertical side in the section that we walk and is impressive in depth. With a drop of nearly 300 metres in a gorge which is 800 metres long and only 76 metres wide, it is the deepest gorge in Australia. The track is well defined to and from the canyon and is a steep descent/ascent. The canyon itself has a boulder field that is a challenge and a delight to find ways over, under or beside the boulders. The creek has pools as it exits the boulder field and makes its way to join the Shoalhaven River. Starting on the red track we descend into the canyon and then down stream through the boulder field. We will follow the creek to the white track at the confluence with the Shoalhaven River and then up to Mt Ayre lookout for views over the creek and river. Rejoin the red track and back to cars. Find out why this spectacular area must be better protected for future generations. Park at GR 395 037 on Carne West Trail. Descend into Gang Gang Canyon and walk all the way through to Gang Gang Tunnels. After exploring the Gang Gang Tunnels, turn south and walk to the falls at GR 407 040, whilst inspecting the caves along the way. Continue south to visit Lots Wife and the adjacent cave. Move west across a few shallow gullies and re-connect with the cars. About 6 km. Scrambling and exposure. Location: Gardens of Stone SCA Map: Cullen Bullen 89313N Limit: 12. View

(Postponed) Projecting itself out from the cliff into the void above Carne creek caves is the aptly named Flying Carpet! This narrowish slab of rock affords the cautious walker outstanding views of the surrounding clifflines all around and far down into Carne creek. We will also visit the wonderful Koan cave too as we progress along the towering escarpment.
