Mount Coricudgy, Ross Castle and Blackwater Creek. Co-leader: Ian Thorpe. On Friday afternoon, we will drive out to Coricudgy Road and camp in the State Forest. Day 1 - Drive as close as possible to Mount Coricudgy. From here, take old Kerry Track (indistinguishable in places; part of Coriaday Stock Route) towards Middle Hill and then Mount Baker and Ross Castle. Depending on the progress and water, we will stop for a high camp in that area, or descend into a tributary of Blackwater Creek to the south east. About 12km or more, depending on access to Mount Coricudgy Trail. Day 2 - Descend into Blackwater Creek, probably at GR 591 708, through a tight gorge. Walk up Blackwater Creek, probably till GR 560 670. We may investigate some tributary gorges along the way. About 10km.
Day 3 - Continue up Blackwater Creek. Depending on the time and interest, a number of options exist for climbing out back to Kerry Track or even continuing all the way south to the Hunter Trail. About 10km or more. The above program needs to be kept flexible, depending on what we find.
